Concrete, slab and foundation removal in Courtenay
Courtenay Demolition breaks out concrete slabs, driveways and foundations across Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland. Rubble goes to the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre at $60 a tonne rather than the $205 mixed rate, so keeping loads clean keeps your price down. We give you a price after seeing the slab and the access.

We break out slabs, driveways and old foundations, then haul the concrete out. Access and slab thickness are the two things that move the price most.
What's included
We break up the concrete, load it out, and grade the area when it's clear. Rubble is sorted separately from mixed debris, since it's billed at a lower rate at the landfill.
What changes the price
Slab thickness is the first thing we look at — a standard driveway slab breaks out faster than a reinforced foundation wall. We also weigh how the breaker and the excavator can access the site, and whether rebar or wire mesh inside the slab needs separating before the load goes out. You get a firm price from us once we've looked at all three.
How we remove concrete
- 1
Site walk — we look at the slab or foundation, the thickness, and how the machine gets in.
- 2
Breaking it up — the concrete gets broken into loadable pieces.
- 3
Sorting rebar from rubble — steel reinforcement is pulled out and recycled separately from the concrete.
- 4
Load-out and grading — the rubble is hauled out and the area graded level.
What does this mean for your property?
Concrete rubble is billed at $60 a tonne, well under the $205 a tonne mixed construction and demolition rate. We keep it in its own load, separate from mixed debris, so a slab or foundation job doesn't pay the mixed rate.
What does a typical job look like?
- The problem
- An old detached garage's concrete floor slab needs to come out before a new structure goes up.
- What makes it harder
- The slab has wire mesh reinforcement running through it that isn't visible until we start breaking it.
- What we do
- We break the slab into sections, pull the mesh out as we go, and load the rubble and steel out separately.
This job often pairs with house and structure teardown, or compare typical prices in the demolition cost guide.
