Interior strip-out and selective demolition in Courtenay

Courtenay Demolition strips interiors for renovations across Courtenay, Comox and Cumberland — walls, flooring, cabinets and fixtures out, your structure left standing. Interior strip-out runs $3 to $9 per square foot, and we sort the debris at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre.

Interior stripped back to the studs with tile and drywall on the floor

We clear a room, a floor or a whole interior down to the studs and slab, ready for your renovation crew. Fixtures, cabinets, flooring and non-structural walls all come out.

Interior strip-out runs about $3 to $9 per square foot, depending on what's coming out and how the building is accessed.

What comes out and what stays

Fixtures, cabinets, flooring and drywall all come out. Non-structural interior walls come out too, if your renovation plan calls for it. Structural framing — the walls and posts holding the building up — stays in place; that's work for your renovation crew, not us.

Why gypsum goes out separately

Drywall is gypsum, and gypsum goes to the landfill at $285 a tonne — a divertible material billed on its own, not lumped in with mixed construction and demolition waste. We keep it in its own pile on site so it's sorted correctly before it leaves.

What does this mean for your property?

An older building sometimes hides asbestos in flooring adhesive, popcorn ceiling texture or old pipe wrap. We hold a WorkSafeBC asbestos abatement licence, so if testing turns up something during the strip-out, we handle it instead of stopping the job to bring in another contractor.

What does a typical job look like?

The problem
A 1980s kitchen and two bathrooms need to come out before a full renovation.
What makes it harder
The floor tile adhesive is original to the house and hasn't been tested.
What we do
We test before we start, confirm it's clear, and strip the kitchen and both bathrooms down to the framing and subfloor.
